Nashville Singer/Songwriter Colleen Lloy Performs For Her Son

While dining at the Daniel Island Yacht Club, we were captivated by a beautiful voice singing nearby. The singer performed several songs, but one in particular stood out to all of us. Colleen Lloy, a singer/songwriter from Nashville, was the featured artist at the DI Property Owner's Association's Fall Acoustic Guitar Series. She shared how the following song had been a source of comfort to her as she coped with the loss of her son, Matthew.

Matthew, an American soldier and Army Ranger, tragically lost his battle with PTSD. Colleen, who considered him a hero, sang "Dancing In The Sky" with a mix of pain, love, and pride in her voice. As a fellow veteran, it was touching to witness her serenade her son. Despite her grief, Colleen finds comfort in the memories of performing with him and in the inspiration he provided. Matthew F. Fontenot embodied the essence of a U.S. infantryman and the ideal image of a son a mother would wish for.

Dani and Lizzy, twins from Vancouver, wrote the song "Dancing in the Sky" following the passing of Lizzy's friend. In a 2022 review of the song, Katie Carpenter wrote for "The SIlver Streak," "While the song expresses sorrow at the loss of a loved one, it also asks for happiness and to have no fears or pain. This message isn’t much different than their other songs which tend to focus on positivity and sends a message that can help people heal and overcome life’s obstacles." This perfectly encapsulates why Colleen decided to perform this song for her son.

As it turns out, Colleen is a longtime friend of Jeff Batson. Jeff is also one of our great friends and a past guest on the podcast.
